SECRET OF THE HAUNTED MANSION, by Junji Ito (Voices in the Dark ch4)

Voices in the Dark is a collection of horror shorts from Junji Ito, published in 2003. The stories themselves were previously published in bimonthly serials in magazines from Asahi Sonorama.
Chapter four, SECRET OF THE HAUNTED MANSION, and the very gross Junji Ito that we know and love is back.
The story is about two boys sneaking into a haunted mansion themed attraction that they suspect is actually haunted.
I hope you’re not expecting puppies and free hugs in there.

As tends to happen with about half his short stories, the ending is kind of tacked on here. And as tends to happen with the other half, the shock value is mostly contingent on the villain rearing his head for the first time in a disgusting way. So I’d put this story right in the middle of his short works.
Click the VOICES IN THE DARK tag to read previous chapters. Like last time, I’ll be collecting all the stories into one file when it’s fully done. Unlike last time, these stories are completely independent and it makes no difference if you read them together or not.

Thnak you much. I download it. You really love Ito Junji, right?
When I saw the man spitting nails I was like “Hey, the freak boy with the nails!! He has grown up fine !!” since there are stories with him as a little boy, and I read them some time ago (blame my big brother). Kinda killed my fear, remembering of happier times (well… lessworkier times anyway). But I think I prefer more psychologically frihtening works, because on paper, the whole “Boya !” thing is a lot less impressive than in movies, since the reader sets his own pace for the former.
The haunted house owner is a recurring character?! That actually makes a lot of sense. I haven’t read much beyond what’s been translated, so I never knew that.
Might even add that tidbit into my original post. Thanks.
Yes, the haunted house owner is Souichi. He is the main character of several stories, collected together in “Souichi’s Diary of Delights” and “Souichi’s Diary of Curses”, respectivelly vol. 5 and 6 of “Junji Ito Horror Collection”.
These stories basically show Souichi as a elementary school kid who likes to put curses on people.
@daniellau: Thanks for another great translation!
Souchi? I want to read those manga too.
